Our lives intersect with politics and history on a constant basis, in fact they are irremovable from one another. At the heart of the work is an awareness of the social and political as well as where and how private intersects with public
The paintings are an exploration of the precariousness that has come to define the contemporary and how within this ambiguity we react to ‘real’ issues. There is a seemingly constant powerlessness that defines us especially with regards to modern ‘systems’ which have taken on a ‘common sense normality’ that seem inherently inevitable and impossible to change.
Using a combination of found images, family photographs, purposefully created images, as well as images sent to me, a platform is created to question and explore these issues of placement within society, individuality and its undertakings and pervasive superficialism.
